How to feed
Introduce over 14-21 days in line with the feeding program (see table below). This introduces the cattle to the taste and texture of the blend, and allows time for a healthy transition onto greater intakes of a high energy ration. A carefully managed adaption time will pay dividends through better growth rates and feed conversion which contributes to less days on feed - a key profit driver when aiming to finish cattle to meet market requirements. For replacement heifers, we recommend feeding up to 1-1.5% of bodyweight per day to ensure optimum lifetime development and reduce incidence of fatty udder syndrome. During the adaption and finishing period carefully monitor cattle to ensure that there are no indicative health problems. (Manure consistency is a good gauge of rumen health. Evidence of diarrhoea can indicate acidosis and affected cattle should be withdrawn, provided free choice quality hay and restarted at Day 1 as shown in the feeding program guide.) Always ensure cattle have access to unlimited cool, clean drinking water.
Suggested Feeding rates for a 300 kg weaner.
Day 1 1.5 kg/head (0.5% bw) Day 3 2.25 kg/head (0.75% bw) Day 6 3 kg/head (1% bw) Day 9 3.75 kg/head (1.25% bw) Day 12 4.5 kg/head (1.5% bw) Day 15 5.25 kg/head (1.75% bw) Day 18 6 kg/head (2% bw) Day 21 7.5 kg/head (2.5% bw)
